Why Buffalo?

I'm glad you asked!  Buffalo is New York’s second largest city and in 2001 USA Today named Buffalo the winner of the "City with a Heart", contest proclaiming it the most friendliest city in the nation. And in both 1996 and 2002, Buffalo won the All-America City Award. Plus Reader's Digest named Buffalo as the third cleanest city in America in 2005. In recent years, Buffalo has been working very hard inching its way into being a top cultural, educational, and medical authority after a long history of being an industrial center. Offering something for everyone, Buffalo has excellent restaurants, world class cultural attractions, a electrifying arts community and three professional sport teams.  Buffalo also has some awesome architecture and a great citywide transportation system. No matter what the season, there's always something going on.  From boating and fishing on Lake Erie, to many of the outdoor activities and annual festivals, to a day trip to nearby Niagara Falls one of the "seven wonders of the world". This is a vibrant place to live.

Let's talk Sports

Buffalo was "Talkin Proud" back in the early 90s when we won the AFC Championship and went to the Super Bowl for four years in a row!  No other team has ever gone to the Super Bowl four consecutive years in a row.  Even though they never won, Buffalo's fans are some of the most enthusiast and loyal fans in the nation.  Then there's the beloved Buffalo Sabres.  Even though the Sabres have not won any titles yet, Buffalo loves this team!  Buffalo Bisons baseball team has won the Governors' Cup 6 times and has played in the championship series 10 times.  If love sports, then you will love Buffalo!  Buffaloians undoubtedly have a passion for all things sports.

Buffaloians know how to eat

Famous around the country are Buffalo's own "Chicken Wings", started innocently at the small Anchor Bar in downtown Buffalo. You can order chicken wings in just about every city of the nation, but make no mistake, they're not as good as having them in Buffalo. Another Buffalo delicacy is "Beef on Weck". This one seemed to stay at home because it's only found in Buffalo. Another Buffalo find is charbroiled hot dogs or more commonly known as "Texas Red Hots".  One of my favorites is the Sponge Candy I used to get as a kid in downtown Buffalo.  In addition, Buffalo is full of ethnic neighborhoods that pride themselves on their restaurants serving heritage recipe dishes.  From Irish to Italian, and Polish or Serbian to German -- they all compete with each other for your dollar and your repeat business.  You never have to go too far to get great food at a great price all within a family friendly atmosphere.  email me for a list of my favorite restaurants.

Shop till you drop

The Broadway Market has been around for years and years.  In an "Old World" setting you can find the freshest produce, baked goods, crafts, and many specialty items.  At Easter time the Polish population shines.  The market comes alive with vendors selling everything homemade including perogi, sausage, sauerkraut, horseradish and baked goods to die for.  Whole families travel hundreds of miles for a chance to stand in the make-shift lines at glass counters.  Other Buffalo ethnic groups have their own distinct summer festivals.  email me for more information.  Shopping in the downtown area of Buffalo still exists.  Check out Main and Church and go north to Main and Chippewa and then west along Elmwood and Delaware.  Don't miss Buffalo Place and Main Street Mall.  A shopping trip to downtown is not complete until you visit the Boutiques on Delaware Avenue as well.  The Allentown Village is Buffalo's version of Greenwich Village in New York.  The large shopping malls are Walden Galleria near Cheektowaga where you will find over 200 stores and McKinley Mall near Blasdell.

Transportation made easy

Public transport is great in Buffalo.  We have the Metro Bus Service that operates daily from 5 am to midnight.  Just about anywhere in the city you can catch a bus every 20 minutes on weekdays.  The MetroRail is a free ground train that runs on Main Street.  For a nominal fee the train runs out to the University of Buffalo.  And if you are not a city person you can travel just 30 - 45 minutes in any direction out of downtown Buffalo to experience a whole different topography on the Thruway system.  Working in the city but living outside of its limits is not a travel problem.  Heavy traffic in Buffalo is virtually non-existent.  Need some help getting around?  Just ask, I know this city!

Awesome Architecture

The New York Times once said Buffalo was "a textbook for a course in modern American buildings."  They must have been referring to Buffalo City Hall, built in 1929, it's one of the most outstanding "Art Deco" buildings in the country.  Add to that the downtown Buffalo Savings Bank, referred to as "The Goldome".  Built at the turn of the century it is a neoclassical masterpiece.  We also have some of Frank Lloyd Wright's greatest work:  Darwin D. Martin House Complex on Jewett Parkway and Graycliff Estate on Old Lake Shore Road in Derby.  Don't miss a visit to Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna with it's ornate display of Baroque architecture.  I would also recommend a leisurely drive down Delaware Avenue.  Commonly called "Millionaires Row", these homes at a sight to behold.  This street has some of the largest mansions and is one of the most prestigious streets in the city.
